Ansi

What Ansi Desktop is for, and how to install it

Ansi Desktop is a companion agent for AnsTracker’s business tooling on macOS and Windows. You don’t need it to chat with Ansi.

What it does

Ansi Desktop runs in the background for AnsTracker’s Live Browser: it opens real browser windows with the settings a test was configured with, and keeps a 127.0.0.1-only bridge so the Anslation web app and the extension can find it. Ansi chat runs in the browser and does not need it.

Builds

  • macOS, Apple Silicon
  • macOS, Intel
  • Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit

Download them from the Ansi Desktop page, which links the SHA-256 checksums too.

Install on a Mac

  1. Download the .dmg for your Mac’s chip, open it, and drag Ansi Desktop into Applications.
  2. The build isn’t signed with an Apple certificate yet, so clear the quarantine flag once in Terminal: xattr -d com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Ansi Desktop.app"
  3. Open it. The Ansi mark appears in the menu bar and starts on future logins.

Install on Windows

  1. Download Ansi-Desktop-win-x64.exe and verify its checksum.
  2. SmartScreen may warn about a new publisher because the build isn’t code-signed yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. The installer places Ansi Desktop and starts it. The Ansi mark appears in the system tray and starts with Windows.

Staying in control

From the tray or menu bar you can pause the bridge, turn start-at-login off, close every live window, or quit. Everything runs locally on your machine.
